My favorite multiplication tip is repetition.
ReplyDeleteI agree w/ Karen - repetition once the students understand the concept of multiplication. I like to use different ways to practice fluency. These task cards will be very helpful. Thank you for the chance to win. dbednarsk@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteWhen introducing multiplication, I like to use songs. It really helps my musical students!
DeleteMine is the same! Practice, practice, practice! And in different ways too...not just flash cards....mix it up and play some games! Make it fun! =)
ReplyDeleteTo practice daily. I tell parents to keep cards in the car and have kids practice for the time it takes them to drive to the store. Those few minutes can make all the difference. Also, to use movement when practicing (out of the car of course). Jumping the number of times as the product for example. Anything to help them remember.
ReplyDeleteI love using Xtramath.com with my students. I created a graph on my wall with colorful tape and each student had a yellow star. As they moved up on the percentage of math facts they had memorized according to Xtramath.com, they moved their star up. They were so motivated by this program and students who I thought would never put in the effort to learn their math facts were making huge amounts of progress!
ReplyDeleteI always teach my kiddos that you won't understand multiplication if you aren't fluent in addition. Math skills are incremental.

The 85 Mile Commute
Getting my students to see patterns in the answers ie divisibility rules, odd/even, etc.
ReplyDeleteAlways practice and do drills. Keep it fun and find new ways to do it. My kids always love a competition with prizes.
ReplyDeleteTeaching the stratagies in chants! They love to practice with the wrap ups.
ReplyDeleteI like chants!
ReplyDeleteMultiplication is part of the process. If kids don't get addition, they won't get multiplication. You need to make sure they are confident there first.
ReplyDeleteAnother fun thing to do is put up a multiplication chart and say "okay, you already know the zeros" and erase those, then "the ones are simple" and erase those etc to show how many they already know and boost confidence again!
games, games, games! I want them to practice, practice, practice so they can memorize!!!!!

Hi! Thanks for a fun chance at a great giveaway!!

Around the world! It makes multiplication fun. I even caught students making their own flashcards to study so they can go farther :)
ReplyDeleteThis year I did these 'Multiplication Masters' quizzes. You can search it on Scholastic. I did these once a week and also had a certain times table quiz we did every other week. The great thing about multiplication masters is it held children accountable for learning their times tables but was also at their own pace. I had some children on the 3x table at the end of the year and some that had completed their 12 x table. All the students loved it and the consistency of doing it every week made them more fluent.
ReplyDeleteI also like incorporating games like Around the World.
I love the 9s trick on my hands! Also love doing it in song.. who doesn't get songs stuck in their heads?! :) Thank you for the great giveaways.

I love teaching my kiddos multiplication with skip counting songs! It was a trick I learned during my student teaching and it works great! I also love reinforcing it with fun games such as multiplication BUMP, boggle, and Mathable!
ReplyDeletePractice, practice, practice any way you can!! Awesome giveaway.

Using the lattice method for multiple digits and the hand method for 9 times table :)
ReplyDeleteSongs, songs, songs - works for everybody!
ReplyDeleteI checked out the xtramath.com and that is an awesome website. I was wondering if anyone knows of a website similar for reading? I like the way parents can also see their child's progress.
ReplyDeleteThanks a million!
I like to teach songs to help them remember.
